SECTION 1: INDIVIDUAL WORK

Read the extract from her Book (ONLY CHAPTER 1) and answer the following questions:


Chapter 1: "Foreigners In Our Own Land"

-What is Nujeen good at?
-What does "Nujeen" mean?
-Who is Bashar al-Asad? How did people start calling him?
-How many refugees came to Europe in 2015? What parts of the world are they coming from?
-What was the previous largest refugee crisis in the world?
-Who looked after Nujeen? Why? How many brothers and sisters does she have?
-Where did she live in Syria? (Find it in a map)
-Why is the title of this chapter Foreigners in our Own Country?
-Why did her family have to move from her village to Mambij? (Write a summary)
-Write some facts about the Kurds.

SECTION 2

A-Read about Nujeen Mustafa. Find the most important information about her life: Nujeen when she was a child, her country, her journey to Europe, her final destination, her achievements, her life nowadays, her dreams....

Use the following links to get some more information. 





B-GROUP WORKWrite a project talking about her story.

1. Make a poster, including photographs and a map showing all her journey. Divide your project into sections:
-Part 1: Nujeen in Syria.
-Part 2: The Journey.
-Part 3: A normal life.
-Facts: Include information about the refugee crisis we are going through in Europe at the moment and the Kurds.
(Give an appealing name to your project.)

2. Make a glossary of key words from your project. (One per group)

3. Save a copy of your written project in a doc file. Send it to the teacher, together with the glossary of key words. (One per group)

C-INDIVIDUAL WORK: (EXTRA)
1. Write a short summary talking about what you have learnt from this project. Don't forget to use paragraphs. Use the following questions as a guide.
What's your opinion about Nujeen Mustafa? What's the European people's attitude towards wars in other parts of the world and about the refugees who are coming to Europe, escaping from war?What should Europe do to help these refugees? Should our countries do nothing?

2Make a mind map of your project. (EXTRA)

-Originality: Is your project different from the rest? Did you give your project an appealing name?
-Selected photos: Did you search for the best photographs? Are they connected to each section of the project?
-General overview: (Is your poster attractive? Does it draw(attract) people's attention? Would anybody stop to read what it is about?)
-What can we learn from this story? (Don't forget to write your personal opinion about this girl and what Europe should do to solve this problem.)

Follow up activity
Pairwork: Write an imaginary interview on TV to Nujeen Mustafa:

-Introduce her.
-Ask questions that are relevant in her story (about past, present, achievements and plans for the future)
-Finish the interview in an appropriate way.
